Meet Rick Maurer
Author, Speaker, and Advisor on Leading Change
When I began my career, I noticed a troubling trend: leaders were being told that the best way to handle resistance was to push harder. But I saw something different in practice—when people felt heard, resistance often transformed into commitment.
That belief shaped my book Beyond the Wall of Resistance and has guided my work ever since. Instead of treating resistance as a problem to eliminate, I see it as valuable feedback and untapped energy that can help change efforts succeed.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with organizations of all sizes, from small nonprofits to global companies, helping them turn hesitation into momentum. I’ve written several books along the way, including Why Don’t You Want What I Want?, The Building Capacity for Change Sourcebook, and Seizing Moments of Possibility.
At the core of my work is a simple philosophy: meaningful change happens when leaders engage people—not when they impose solutions. By creating space for honest dialogue and genuine collaboration, I help teams move from resistance to strong, sustainable support.
