How Creating Space Can Improve Workplace Conversations

This short reflection explores how leaving space—rather than filling it—can change the quality of our conversations at work.

I’ve been thinking about how conversations really open—or don’t—at work.

Sometimes we fill every bit of space. More words. More slides. More explaining. And we think that helps. Often, it does the opposite.

I was reminded of this by a scientist who had to give a presentation and decided to do something unusual. Instead of the usual fifty slides, he used five.

That small choice changed everything. People stayed engaged. They thought. They questioned. They added. The conversation came alive.

If something resonates, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please comment on LinkedIn, where others can join the conversation.
